TIM RUSSERT

I'm kind of in mourning. I LOVED Tim Russert and am sad he is gone. Died today after collapsing from what appears to be a heart attack.

He was NBC's Washington Bureau Chief though many people knew him best as host of Meet the Press.

Though he was known as a fabulous political journalist (and author of two best-selling books), what people may not know about him was that in 1995, the National Father’s Day Committee named him “Father of the Year”, and Parents magazine honored him as “Dream Dad” in 1998. In 2001 the National Fatherhood Initiative also recognized him as Father of the Year.

Russert was also a senior vice president at NBC, and this year Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Russert was one of the reasons I began to enjoy political interviews. He demanded honesty and people respected him. I also loved his little white board.

Nobody disliked Tim Russert; you couldn't even if you tried and nobody did. He was that well regarded by 'all sides'.

Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona, Obama's rival for the White House, hailed Russert as the "pre-eminent journalist of his generation."

Along with a law degree, he had dozens of honorary college degrees, and numerous professional awards.

Russert was married and had a son, Luke.

He was 58 and taken way too early. Major bummer.

It really is sad, isn't it Kristine? I almost feel like we lost a member of the family! He was always so pleasant, decent, kind, and like a big brother to the USA. I feel like you do - a major bummer.

I feel very sad too. I enjoyed his direct no-BS ways. I felt I could trust what he said and the answers that he got from political figures. I almost felt a sense of panic hearing of his passing. Just knowing that this year will be full of craziness with the Democratic fight for the White House... I want to trust the people asking the questions - that they will fight for the straight answer. He will be missed!!
